Elect a NEW 'National Animal'

SPROUTS Environment Trust has launched a brand new campaign calling Nature enthusiasts and animal lovers to its ‘Elect a New National Animal’ initiative. The campaign is pitched at electing a NEW National Animal, replacing the current
animal (Tiger). Here are some basic tiger facts:

Peaceful, yet ferocious Tigers!

Tigers which are considered by most as extremely elegant and graceful, yet ferocious animals, are on the brink of extinction. There numbers currently stand are as low as 1300individuals, spread all over India. This number was close to a million less than a century ago. And in the century, we have hunted, poached, destroyed its habitat or caused uncontrolled fires, taken railway trains through its habitat or introduced weeds which are inedible to their prey - in more than one ways, we have pushed the tiger to a point where the path of return seems bleak.

Under those given circumstances, we need to start considering other suitable options for a NEW National Animal, when the tiger will (like in Sariska and other places) be declared EXTINCT...
